Comparison of the Effects of Different Biofertilizer Applications on Tomato Fruit Quality

Abstract

The intensive use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture has a negative impact on soil, human, and environmental health. For this reason, there has been a recent increase in environmentally friendly, sustainable, and ecologically based agricultural practices. This study aimed to determine the effects of different organic fertilizer applications on the yield and quality of tomato plants. Conducted in a greenhouse setting, the study examined the effects of fish waste compost, sheep manure, bacterial culture, and chemical fertilizer (DAP) applications on (Solanum lycopersicum L.) were determined and compared. The fruit harvesting period was conducted in two harvests. Analyses of texture, pH, electrical conductivity, calcium carbonate, organic matter, available phosphorus, and potassium were performed on the soil samples used in the study. The results of the study indicate that fish manure and sheep manure applications in the first harvest, and mixed fertilizer and fish manure applications in the second harvest, had a positive effect on fruit size, weight, volume, and diameter. DAP and mixed fertilizer applications during the second harvest period influenced pH. When evaluated for acidity in the fruit juice, the fruits obtained in both harvests were found to be sweet.
